Modeling conditional and marginal association in contingency tables
نویسندگان
چکیده
— Standard tools for the analysis of the (average) conditional association structure of the distribution on a multiway contingency table are log-linear models. A different association concept is that of marginal association and this paper demonstrates how marginal log-linear parameters can be used to measure this aspect of association. The paper gives a non-technical discussion of these two aspects of association by discussing their complementary nature and also describes how conditional association is naturally incorporated in the framework provided by marginal log-linear parameters. The properties and interpretation of these parameters are discussed, including the variation independence of hierarchically related marginal log-linear parameters, and the modeling implications of these results are indicated. متن کاملA Survey of Statistical Approaches to Preserving Confidentiality of Contingency Table Entries
In the statistical literature, there has been considerable development of methods of data releases for multivariate categorical data sets, where the releases come in the form of marginal and conditional tables corresponding to subsets of the categorical variables. In this chapter we provide an overview of this methodology and we relate it to the literature on the release of association rules wh...
متن کاملPartial Association Components in Multi-way Contingency Tables and Their Statistiical Analysis
In analyses of contingency tables made up of categorical variables, the study of relationship between the variables is usually the major objective. So far, many association measures and association models have been used to measure the association structure present in the table. Although the association measures merely determine the degree of strength of association between the study varia...
متن کاملDecompositions of Marginal Homogene- Ity Model Using Cumulative Logistic Models for Multi-way Contingency Tables
• For square contingency tables with ordered categories, Agresti (1984, 2002) considered the marginal cumulative logistic (ML) model, which is an extension of the marginal homogeneity (MH) model. Miyamoto, Niibe and Tomizawa (2005) proposed the conditional marginal cumulative logistic (CML) model which is defined off the main diagonal cells, and gave the decompositions of the MH model using the...
متن کاملMarginal Asymmetry Measure Based on Entropy for Square Contingency Tables with Ordered Categories
For the analysis of square contingency tables, Tomizawa, Miyamoto and Ashihara (2003) considered a measure to represent the degree of departure from marginal homogeneity. The measure lies between 0 and 1, and it takes the minimum value when the marginal homogeneity holds and the maximum value when one of two symmetric cumulat ive probabilities for any category is zero. Th is paper proposes impr...
